About the event

The Forgotten Patriots Luncheon is held every year on the Friday of NSDAR's Continental Congress. This year's event will be hosted by Nikki Williams Sebastian (District of Columbia State Society) and Taryn Edmonds Kennedy (Pennsylvania State Society). We will have two Dazzling Daughters as our honored guest speakers, Yvonne Liser (District of Columbia State Society) and Marion T. Lane, Ed.D. (Pennsylvania State Society), who will share with us their thoughts about why it is important to be active in lineage societies and why representation and visibility matter.

Yvonne  Liser was born and raised in Washington, DC. She became a member of the DCDAR Colonel John Washington-Katherine Montgomery Chapter in 2011 after spending many years as a volunteer leader in Boy Scouts of America. She is currently her chapter's Corresponding Secretary. Since joining DAR, Yvonne has held many leadership positions in the Society including:

  • NSDAR National Membership Committee Chair
  • NSDAR National Long Range Planning Commission
  • America 250! Taskforce member, VanBuren Administration
  • Chapter Development and Revitalization Commission (CDRC) member
  • DCDAR State Organizing Secretary
  • DCDAR State Registrar
  • Chapter Regent, Colonel John Washington-Katherine Montgomery Chapter
  • Yvonne Liser is the incoming District of Columbia State Society Vice Regent

Ms. Liser's primary hobby is genealogy, but when not in a pandemic Yvonne loves to travel and spend time with friends and family. She currently is the family historian for five families and manages more than a few family DNA projects.

In her spare time Yvonne is a program analyst in the DC Government.

Marion T. Lane, Ed.D is retired after a 38-year career in public education. She is one of the few African American members of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution where she serves as the Bucks County Chapter NSDAR Treasurer. Dr. Lane has served in various leadership capacities in 13 lineage societies including:

  • National Recording Secretary, The National Gavel Society
  • National Recording Secretary,  The National Society of Colonial Daughters of the 17th Century
  • Pennsylvania State President, National Society of Colonial Dames of the XVII Century
  • Member, Jamestowne Society
  • National President,  The Society of Descendants of Washington’s Army at Valley Forge from 2010 - 2014
  • Board Member, Friends Alliance of Valley Forge National Historical Park from 2007–2017
  • Board Member, Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia

Dr. Lane is also a member of:

  • The Author’s Guild
  • Bucks County Chapter of the Links, Inc.
  • Philadelphia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc.

Dr. Marion Lane's awards include:

  • Phillis Wheatley Literary Award, 2017
  • Sons and Daughters of the US Middle Passage
  • African American Historical and Genealogical Society International Children’s Book Award, 2018
  • African American Museum of Bucks County, PA Hidden Figure Award, 2021

Dr. Lane also championed the efforts to see her father, John James, at age 98 years old, finally commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, seventy-six years after being denied his officer status because of racial discrimination. His commissioning ceremony was held in 2018 at the Museum of the American Revolution’s Liberty Hall, complete with a color guard.

“Tenacity is my middle name,” says Marion.
